About Kirk Mastin
I am a wedding and outdoor lifestyle photographer based in Seattle.
My weddings have been featured in numerous blogs and magazines around the world, including fashion magazines in Brazil and the Netherlands.
My editorial and commercial work has been featured in and on the the New York Times, Time Magazine, Saveur, National Geographic Adventure, and elsewhere.
I prefer to shoot film with medium format cameras, although I do use high-end digital cameras when the situation or client call for it.
Over the years I’ve found that my dual photographic specialties, wedding photography and outdoor lifestyle photography, have informed each other. I don’t think I would be where I am today if not for a mastery in both fields.
For example: I apply portrait techniques from wedding photography to my outdoor life style photography. I strive to go beyond action shots and find the personality behind the athlete.
For my wedding work, I apply the ‘sense of environment’ I’ve learned from outdoor lifestyle photography to create dramatic wedding photos that combine subject and environment into something greater than it’s parts.
I was selected for the 2006 Eddie Adams Workshop in Liberty, NY and I have also studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, CA.
Currently, I am represented by Aurora Photos.
